USA Functional Fitness National Championships Day 1 Recap
Today marked the first day of the USAFF National Championships. Three events were tested today: Aerobic Endurance, Strength and Bodyweight Endurance. At the end of the day the Smith brothers were on top of the leaderboard with Dane Smith sitting in 1st and brother Alex Smith sitting in 2nd. Dane and Alex are the younger brothers of 2015 CrossFit Games Champion Ben Smith. William Trujillo is currently in 3rd with Vinny Casey and Ken Battiston rounding out the top five.
On the women’s side, Chelsea Nicholas is sitting in 1st by taking two 2nd place finishes and a 1st place finish. Carissa Mueller and Hollye Henderson are currently tied for 2nd with Amy Backel and Stephanie Smith rounding out the top five.
The three events scheduled for Sunday are: Bodyweight Skill, Mixed Modal and Power. Tomorrow we’ll find out which 12 men and woman will earn a spot on the national team and earn the right to represent the USA. See full leaderboard here.
In related news 2016 CrossFit Games athlete, Sean Sweeney, was scheduled to compete but was forced to withdraw due to injury. He is still in attendance helping run the competition.
